Sushmita Sen is back with an 'unusual' role

Bollywood actress and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is all set to break her almost year-long absence from the silver screen with David Dhawan 's comedy Do Knot Disturb , in which she plays an 'unusual' role.

The sensuous actress is all upbeat about the movie and says she is playing a very "unusual character".

"It is out-and-out an entertaining film with comedy king Govinda in it. It will turn out to be a laugh riot for cine lovers," says Sushmita.

"I am playing a very unusual character and people will love it," says Sushmita, whose co-stars in the film are Ritesh Deshmukh , Rajpal Yadav , Ranvir Shorey and Sohail Khan .

This is also for the very first time she will be working with another beauty queen – Lara Dutta – in a film.

Asking about her long absence from the silver screen, Sushmita says there were some personal matters apart from her own production film ‘Rani Laxmi Bai’, whose research work and scripting took away most of her time.

Science Fiction comes of age in Bollywood

It has taken its own sweet time to develop, but the sci-fi genre has gradually come of age in Bollywood.

It was the English literature writers of 19th century who first toyed with ideas like time travel or aliens invading the Earth. Hollywood caught up on them in the era of black and white films and gave birth to a new genre in cinema: sci-fi.

Bollywood, disappointedly, has been lagging far far behind. Constraints of technology kept the filmmakers away from the genre in the decently long history of Hindi film industry until Shekhar Kapur decided to bell the cat in Mr. India . The movie, though not a full-fledged sci-fi thriller, introduced the genre to Indian audiences who were left with their mouths agape at the sight (pun intended) of a hero who becomes invisible by just turning on his wrist gadget, unless, of course, someone decides to put on the red light.

But ‘Mr. India’ was just a flash in the pan. After Kapur, no other Indian filmmaker dared to experiment with the genre and the sci-fi was put in a deep freeze for a good number of years. On the other hand, Hollywood was experimenting with a variety of sci-fi themes from intergalactic wars to the invasion of Earth by Martians.

Making Priyanka Chopra look 'red'

It was a daunting task to give a futuristic look to Priyanka Chopra in Love Story 2050 .

Believe it or not, it took six months for director Harry Baweja , make-up artist Mickey Contractor, and hair stylist Thea to finalize Priyanka’s look in the film. The trio had to wrack their brains trying to imagine what the fashion and style trends would be in year 2050. Not just this, they had to match those trends with Priyanka’s character without making her look outlandish.

After much brainstorming, the trio decided to give Priyanka a red-haired look along with fashionably zany outfits.

For her redheaded look, Priyanka had to first get her hair fully bleached. After that the hair-stylist dyed her hair red. And this process was repeated twice over a period of a few days, causing damage to the silky hair of the actress. Priyanka had to get rid of split ends by cutting off her hair from the edges.

And once Priyanka slipped into her new redhead look, everyone from the director to the stylist to the spotboy was zapped. It took a while for them to get used to this unusual look, but once they did, they liked it.

Akshaye Khanna takes Saif's place in Farhan's film

After failing to rope in good friend Saif Ali Khan in his next directorial venture, Farhan Akhtar has signed Akshaye Khanna for the role.

It has been quite some time since Farhan announced his plan to make Voices From The Sky , an unusual film about the evolution of telecommunication system. The director had first approached Saif who expressed interest in the project but allegedly quoted an astronomical acting fee that pulled the rug from under Farhan’s firm feet.

Having being turned down by the man whose career he gave a turnaround in Dil Chahta Hai , Farhan approached Akshaye Khanna (another DCH actor) for the lead role.

Akshaye heard the script and was so kicked by the project that he instantly gave his nod to Farhan.

The director now wants to begin shooting his film from November onwards.

At present, Farhan is looking forward to the release of his film Rock On , in which he plays a rockstar.

Aamir Khan and Salman Khan together after 13 years

Bollywood superstars Aamir Khan and Salman Khan will be seen together on screen after 13 years.

But it will not be the silver screen but the small screen where the two Khans recreate the magic of 'Andaz Apna Apna'.

Aamir plays the game 10 Ka Dum along with his nephew Imran Khan , who is set to make his debut in Bollywood with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na .

The episode starts with Aamir and Salman cycling to the 10 Ka Dum sets on the song "Do mastane chale zindagi banane"!

This was like replaying the scene from their hit film 'Andaz Apna Apna' where the duo was last seen.

Salman mischievously introduced Aamir as the man who needed no introduction. Said he: "Yeh to purush hi nahin hain… Yeh Mahapurush hain!

Salman and Aamir are a riot on the show bringing back memories of their comic capers in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.

The episode will be aired on July 4 at 9.00 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
