KARACHI: Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari and Professor Ijaz Farooqui were elected as president and secretary of the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) respectively in elections held here at the National Stadium on Saturday.
This is the first time that Sirajul Islam Bukhari, who has been working as secretary since 1983, was elected as president. He won the seat unopposed.
He got the opportunity to contest elections for the presidential slot after the Sindh High Court dismissed the petition of Dr Muhammad Ali Shah on Friday, thus debarring him from contesting the elections keeping in view the constitution of the PCB under which no MPA or MNA could contest elections of any cricket associations.
Two candidates were in the run for the slot of secretary but Professor Ijaz Farooqui won the seat with overwhelming majority by taking 21 votes while his opponent Shah Riazuddin could not take any vote. Moreover, Mehdi Hassan retained his seat as treasurer unopposed.
