PESHAWAR: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Monday said that the Senate elections would be held on time next month, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to media representatives here, Rehman said that the political parties which stayed away from elections in 2008 had been trying to derail democracy but eventually failed.
He said that the upcoming general elections would take place this year.
The JUI-F chief claimed that all religious parties had agreed on the revival of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Aml (MMA) but he wanted the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) to be a part of the alliance.
He said that horse-trading could be avoided in the Senate elections if political parties agreed on seat adjustments.
He denied the perception that he was playing the role of messenger between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
The JUI-F chief also welcomed the Doha dialogues for regional stability.
