President Obama Has Endorsed me: Congresswoman Sheila Jackson at Community Fundraiser
Published: March 4, 2010
Houston, Texas (02-27-2010 – Pakistan Chronicle Report): Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was given achievement award on behalf of the diverse Houstonian Community this past Friday in Plaza Hotel Downtown Houston. Present of this occasion was her husband and several of the hosts of the event including Lutfi Hassan, Nomi Husain, George Willy, Abeezar Tyebji, Karim Ali and many others.
“Her opponent this time is formidable and we need to support our very own Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee with monetary contributions and votes for her during Texas Primaries’, said Lutfi Hassan.
Before the community dinner and music party, Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee in her fervent style, informed that she already received important endorsements from State of Texas Sens. Rodney Ellis, John Whitmire, Teamsters Local 968 and the Houston Association of Realtors. But the real pearl came these past few days when she got the biggest enchilada.
"Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is a tireless champion for Houston's working families," said President Barack Obama. "That's why we need her back in Congress to help my efforts to bring real jobs back to Houston and the nation."
Houston City Council Member Jarvis Johnson and local lawyer Sean Roberts, are challenging Jackson Lee for this seat, in part because of her steadfast support of Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential race. They maintained that most residents of the 18th were Obama supporters and Jackson Lee was thumbing her nose at them.
This Jackson Lee quote needs to be seen in that '08 context: "I am grateful and humbled to receive this endorsement from President Obama. When he asked me to campaign for him, I found it so rewarding to see the outpouring of support for the change he represented and now he is the change agent that America and Houston need today." Added Hon. Lee.
Host committee of the event included: Former Mayor Lee P. Brown; Lutfi Hassan; Nomi Husain; Safeer Hassan; George Willy; Chris Wilmot; Azam Hasan; Abeezer Tyebji; Mustafa Tameez; Karim Ali; Saheed Kajani; Gopal Reddy; and Calvin Leleux.
