Police official defies orders

LAHORE: Inspector General of the Punjab Police, Tariq Saleem Dogar ordered an inquiry against a DSP after demoting him to OSD for accusing the police high-ups for pressuring on dacoits’ release, Geo News reported Monday.

Meanwhile, the DSP defying the orders, said he would continue functioning as it is.

Talking to Geo News, DSP Imran Babar Jameel stationed at Rang Mahal Circle said he arrested a dacoit few days ago; and later on his tip-off, arrested the coterie’s head.

He continued, ‘But, later on, CIA police chief and divisional officer threatened me of dire consequences for not releasing the dacoit.’

The Punjab IG formed a two-member inquiry committee comprising DIG and AIG after downgrading the police official to OSD. On this, people in large number gathered outside the police station protesting in favour of the DSP.

On this occasion, the DSP Imran Babar revealed the two dacoits were released in the dark of night, adding he does not accede to the departmental inquiry.
