Houston, Texas (04-16-2010 – Pakistan Chronicle News): The Houston Chief of Police Charles A. McClelland, Jr., along with Mayor Annise Parker and several city councilpersons, on April 27th, 2010, celebrated the grand opening of the Midwest Police Station. Chief McClelland and Mayor Parker stressed a strong partnership between HPD and the community will be the key to success.

“It is an outstanding facility that allows us the opportunity to get the police officers working in your neighborhoods closer to you,” said Chief McClelland. “This should be a hub for the community. It’s a

place to hold community meetings and carry on community activities. And in the process, you’ll get to know the officers who work in your neighborhood,” Chief McClelland said.

“We’ve long been a pioneer of neighborhood-oriented policing,” said Mayor Parker. “But everyone needs to understand that the men and women of the Houston Police Department are the last step in fighting crime. If you want a safer community, it starts with citizen involvement,” the mayor said.

HPD’s newest facility was purchased in November of 2007. A former business college, the 60,000 square-foot building was completely remodeled and will house Midwest Patrol Division officers as well as two Narcotics squads and one Investigative First Responder (I.F.R.) squad.

The police station has a jail lock-up to house class C prisoners, which will reduce the amount of time officers are out of service on minor arrests.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster, an emergency generator, ice machine, and hurricane supplies will allow the men and women of the Midwest Patrol Division to continue their mission of helping “Keep Houston Safe.”
