Houston, Texas (04-17-2010 – Pakistan Chronicle News): Developments in Literacy – Houston Chapter organized their 8th Annual Gala 2010, with famous nuclear physicist & educationalist Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy and themed “Reaching the Stars”, in a befitting manner at The Omni Houston Hotel this past Saturday. Developments in Literacy (DIL) is dedicated to providing quality education to disadvantaged children, especially girls, by establishing and operating schools in the underdeveloped regions of Pakistan, with a strong focus on gender equality and local community participation.

Famous Mezban Restaurant of Houston, as always showing another kind gesture, by providing excellent sumptuous food, at no cost to the organizers’, as their contribution towards this cause of international significance; since world is a small village now and enlightenment & educated masses at one place is a boon for people of the whole world.

Annual report of DIL was presented, showing all the donors what they gave last year and how it was used, in intensive training of 689 DIL teachers; organizing of health workshops in 58 schools touching lives in positive manner of more than 6,000 students, teachers and parents; development of Curriculum of English for the Kindergarten to 2nd Grade; establishment of Vocational Training Center (VTC) at the Mehran School; building of Five Safe and Secure Schools in Khairpur, Orangi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi; organizing Extra-Curricular Activity Program- Extra-curricular activities; and much more.

Guest Speaker Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy with his enlightening presentation and Stand-Up Comedian Dan Nainan with his desi cultural and present day society’s issues related comedy & satire enthralled hundreds, who were present.
